It seems that somewhere, majority of humans took the wrong fork on the road to progress and posperity and based it on material gains where having more equated to success and power. These humans built their societies and lives on material things where being rich equates to all the material, tangible things you possess or your money can buy.
Simply put, in their world, you are as rich as the monetary worth of your assets and bank balance.
The square footage and opulance of your houses, the prestige and number of your cars, the size and sparkle of your jewellers, the exoticness and frequency of your yearly holidays and even the extent of your monetary philanthropny — all determine your worth, in your own eyes and in the eyes of your family, peers and larger society.
Satistically, in todays world there are approx 3000 billionaires in the world, and some 56M millionaires. In a world populated by close to 8 billion people, if we do the math, that number equates to less than one percent.
That is bad news for rest of the 99% of humans who are excluded.
If you don’t make the cut of one percent of uber rich, and you are somewhat materially inclined, you are basically fighting the math your whole life which, lets face it, is stacked heavily against you.
You might get a few material gains as you struggle your way up in life, but there will always be more to gain. So it will never be enough for you. You will spend all your life chasing a seemingly attractive but very elusive target.
Yet all the rich-gurus will tell you to try harder, work hardest, hustle more, and live your life with your eyes glued to the prize — money, which equates to material gains and all things wonderful in life.
These gurus will sell you the sunset and the gullible amongst you, will fall for it. They will choose to compromise sometimes even themselves and their relationships — instead choosing to spend time in the company of meaningless others like them all chasing an elusive dream. And they become more and more disillusioned and frustrated the older they get because time is running out for them — and sooner or later they end up all burned out on a therapist ‘s couch.
